FAQ
What is carpet protector, and why do you need it?
The answer to this very important question can be found in how carpets are made today, and how they have evolved over the years. There have been several “generations” of carpet fiber since carpets began to be mass produced earlier in this century.
Nylon carpets in particular, benefited from the addition of flourochemical treatments in the fourth generation which improved soil resistance, and acid dye resistors in the fifth generation which aided resistance to common food dyes found in colored drinks.
The improvements in in stain resistance attained by the addition of flourochemical treatments and acid dye resistors make today’s carpets far superior to the previous generations of carpet that lacked the qualities these treatments provide.
The durability of factory applied protectant is good, but not permanent. Over time, foot traffic can slowly erode the protection you had when the carpet was new.
Without protection, your carpets will stain more easily, appear soiled sooner than necessary, and even wear out ( physical fiber damage) quicker.
It is therefore, a good idea to reapply carpet protector following cleaning when it has been more than a year, and prior to the two year anniversary of last application.
